Africa is Rising!

Thank God for friends!  My friend Christian told me about Arise magazine quite some time ago and I just bought my first copy - so glad that I did!  Arise is a lifestyle magazine that mainly covers Africans and people of African descent from around the globe.  Speaking of African people, on the invitation of another friend Chemene, I attended for the first time, the Dance Africa performance and festival at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music)  - I can only describe it as love - pure and simple.  The most colorful, spirited, vibrant, talented and loving people from all over the world came to Brooklyn to celebrate this rich culture!  The dance performance was incredible - with dancers of all ages celebrating the African spirit - I think they raised a few too!   Chemene and her friend Anayo are both dancers and I took an African Dance class when I was a child - I totally had the impulse to run up on stage and break my back :) by trying to replicate the limber moves of these dancers - they were just that incredible!  We then stepped outside for the festival to more dancing, great music, food and vendors and had an absolutely wonderful time.  Take a look... oh, do not miss the images I captured yesterday(yes, I went back!) while with my friend Amira of the 2 women breaking it down and little Journey(what a great name!), who was with her mom and had the most beautiful spirit - they too were amazing!
